I Wait

I wait.
Every night I go to sleep with the same routine.
I look at my phone, I put it down.
I look at my phone, I put it down.
I look at my phone, I put it down.
Again, and again.

I keep on waiting with my heart in my hands,
For a notification, a vibration.
I see nothing.
I feel rejected.

In my dreams I see a story of love
That I wish I could hold–
Romeo and Juliet,
A king and his queen.

I wake up and see my phone, but there’s nothing.
I wake up and feel unwanted.
My routine never ends.
Morning, night, I wait.
No matter how much I wait,
No matter how much I dream,
I see nothing.
